Never Pity Yourself

Never Pity Yourself
By: Mike Contreras

In the darkest of days
And the blackest of nights
A point is ever so often reached
When all hope has faded
And nothing seems bright

When all want dictates lying down
And sobbing tears of rain;
When everything is never enough
And nothing is ever right
No matter what good is done

When no one is grateful
At the simplest of things
To the grandest of gestures.
When appreciation is dull
And respect is all but gone--

Never Pity Yourself.

You fight, your roar
Will all your being
Stand fast with tears free flowing
And reach deep down;
Dig in and stand true.

Care not if they do not appreciate
Soldier on without remuneration
When down, craw with your nails
Scream in pain, wail in agony
But do not stop; never stop.

Fight on, fight some more.
Though the night is dark
And no moon shines bright
Remember that night is darkest
With the coming of the light.

As difficult and daunting
The days may seem
Remember this clearly;
The only way to help yourself
Is to never pity yourself!
